My Visit to the Taj Mahal Part One

by Jey Pandian

The Taj Mahal was built in 1653 by Shah Jahan as a royal mausoleum for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. It translates into “Crown of Palaces” in Persian and is widely recognized as the jewel of Muslim art in India. It took twenty years to construct and is made entirely of white marble with precious gemstones such as rubies, diamonds and emeralds crafted into intricate designs.

Vaishali (my wife) and I had the rare pleasure of visiting the Taj Mahal during our honeymoon. For me, I yearned to see the Taj Mahal, ever since I was eight years old. I saw the music video below in a Tamil film and hoped that one day I would get a chance to visit the Taj.

I never dreamed that I would get a chance to visit it for the first time along with my wife Vaishali as a honeymoon gift from my parents.
