SEO Advice for the Novice: Part III

by Jey Pandian

Join an SEO forum. There are many good ones out there. The point is to pick up knowledge in the shortest time possible. Without an SEO job, the next best thing is to be mentored by an SEO professional like Aaron Wall or Todd Malicoat.

SEO Book Forums
I started off at SEO Book forum member. I spent about a year in this forum and after I learned few things, I left this forum to go explore other SEO forums and ultimately came back because it isĀ unrivaled across the web for folks new to SEO.

In the first 3 months, I picked up the basics of SEO and starting doing website audits. 2 months later, I was doing SEO consulting for small business clients and 4 months later, I got my first SEO job. This forum was responsible for all that and more.

By many people’s standards, this forum is very old. It’s been here for a really long time as people measure time on the web and the youthful personality of its owner pervades this forum. Some of the most influential people on the web live in this forum.

I won’t mention them by name but I’ll say that the connections that you make here will stay with you for the rest of your life.

Other forums can say that they are good for newbies but don’t walk the talk. This one does. Ask any question and you’ll get an answer within one hour by one of the moderators, if not Aaron, himself.

If you are a voracious reader and if you have a curious mind, this is THE forum is for you.

Agreed Jey, SEOBook is the one forum I trust above all others. I especially like the consistent bare-knuckled approach Aaron lays out there for us. Calling out the “SEO-Police” is why he has forever earned my respect and readership. Aaron truly sees around the corner when it comes to what Google is up to.
